Effective December 17, 2023, the operation, storage, and charging of Personal Electric Vehicles (PEVs) such as e-scooters, e-skateboards, e-hoverboards, and go karts is prohibited anywhere on the University's main campus, indicated by the yellow shaded area on the map below. This policy does not apply to exempt PEVs. Commuters interested in riding electric bicycles to and from campus may do so following new provisions in the policy. The full policy can be read here.

If you were unable to remove your PEV from campus prior to December 17th, NDPD is offering temporary storage accomodations

Questions regarding the policy should be directed to police@nd.edu.

  2. Neither e-bicycles nor their batteries may be charged on campus or brought into any University building.

  3. E-bicycles used for commuting must be registered with NDPD and must clearly display the registration tag provided by NDPD.

Violations

PEV's found in violation of the university policy are subject to impound and fine.

Claiming an Impounded PEV

If you believe your PEV has been impounded, please visit NDPD at Hammes Mowbray Hall during the hours of Parking Services, typically Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. You must bring with you and provide your NDID and proof of ownership (such as a purchase receipt, a serial number, and/or a photo indicating unique markings), and have a plan to immediately remove the device from campus.

Further, impounded scooters are fined at an escalating rate: $100.00 for the first offense, $150.00 for the second offense, and $200.00 for the third offense. This fine must be paid prior to the receiving your device and can be paid in-person when claiming your device.
