Daily Crime Log

The Daily Crime Log can be viewed online (by publish date) or by visiting NDPD's Records Division in Hammes Mowbray Hall during normal business hours.

Disposition Definitions

The University of Notre Dame Police Department uses the following dispositions in closing out case reports and investigations.

  • Arrest: When a person is arrested, charged with the commission of the offense, and the case is turned over to the appropriate prosecutor’s office for possible prosecution.
  • Exceptional: When a suspect is identified as having committed a crime and the case has been forwarded to the prosecutor for review and consideration for charges; or when a suspect is issued a citation for a misdemeanor offense. Also, a suspect has been identified, but the victim does not wish to prosecute, or the state declines to prosecute.
  • Unfounded: A complaint which is determined through investigation to be false or baseless.

Case reports may also be closed out by:

  • Pending or Not Assigned: A complaint which has been investigated, but currently lacks sufficient information to determine who committed the crime.
  • Administrative: A complaint which is reviewed and determined to be non-criminal in nature.
  • No Report Filed: The victim/complainant chose not to file a police report with the law enforcement agency of jurisdiction where this incident occurred.

Note: Incidents for which the victim did not file a police report with NDPD, but which were reported to NDPD by university officials or outside third parties, may contain dispositions reflecting that the matter is being reviewed by an office or agency other than NDPD. These dispositions may include, but are not limited to, OCS-Review (i.e., review being conducted by the Office of Community Standards), OIE Review (i.e., review by Office of Institutional Equity), HR Review (i.e., review by Human Resources), and SBPD or SJCPD Review (i.e., review by South Bend Police Department or St. Joseph County Police Department).

For each incident on the Daily Crime Log, the case report narrative is reviewed and a determination is made as to the appropriate criminal offense classification to use in accordance with Indiana state statute.
