Mental Health Crisis

What should I do?

If you are concerned about yourself or a member of the university community, there are a few options:

  • For immediate care and attention, call 574-631-5555 from a cell phone or 911 from a campus phone. Explain the situation as thoroughly as possible, give the location of the patient (building name and room number), and if possible send someone to the building entrance to meet emergency personnel.
  • If the situation is not imminent, report concerning behavior to the Threat Assessment and Management Team.

Faculty / Staff:

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Employees may call Carebridge at 800-437-0911 to speak with an EAP counselor, 24/7. There is no charge up to 6 sessions per concern.

  • Notre Dame Wellness Center: Employees may call 574-634-9355 to schedule an appointment for emotional well-being services, wellness coaching, and more for themselves or their dependants.

What will first responders do?

When first responders arrive, they will want to gain an understanding of what is going on. Then, if possible, the first responders may take vitals while speaking with the individual to see how they can best assist them to find any services they may need. It is common for both police officers and fire personnel to respond.
