Sexual Misconduct

What is sexual misconduct?

Sexual misconduct includes all forms of sexual violence (sexual harassment, sexual assault and domestic / dating violence) as well as sexual harassment.

What should I do if it happens to me?

NDPD understands the hesitation and concerns of reporting sexual misconduct, and takes every report of sexual misconduct seriously. If you are a survivor of sexual misconduct, get to a safe place and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Just because you seek medical attention does not mean you need to file a police report or press charges. When you are ready, you may notify NDPD. NDPD will ensure you are safe and offer University and community resources which you are welcome to utilize at your own discretion.

What should I do if it happens to someone I know?

If someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 (off-campus or campus phone) or 574-631-5555 (on-campus) as soon as possible.

If someone you know tells you they have experienced sexual misconduct or if you have reason to suspect someone you know is a survivor of sexual misconduct:

  • Ensure your friend is in a safe place.
  • Do not press or pry for information. Listen, provide comfort and assure them it was not their fault.
  • If a sexual assault occured recently (within 5 days), encourage your friend to avoid washing, showering or changing clothes and to seek medical attention. Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center has specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners available 24 hours a day who can provide comprehensive care and forensic medical examinations to sexual assault survivors.
